Ashtanga Yoga follows a set sequence of postures (asana), focusing on moving the body in line with the breath. It can be a strong practice, building an internal heat in the body to purify and release toxins. You may sweat!

Over time and with practice, the sequence becomes familiar. The flowing, meditative movement allows the focus to shift to maintaining this quality of breath and tuning into the subtleties and actions of the body – all while turning the attention inward.

Providing a safe and supportive environment, and giving students the space and confidence to ‘tune in’ to their own bodies and to modify postures where necessary, is key.

Letting go of the ‘perfect shape’ and working to each individual’s own capabilities at any given moment, without force, will always be the focus of these classes.

Some people come to yoga for the physical health benefits, or to build strength and gain more flexibility in their body. Others join a yoga class for stress release, tension release or just to calm a busy mind. Your reasons for practicing yoga may change from week to week and will almost certainly change after many years of practice. Whatever your reason, it’s the right reason for you!

Some yoga experience is beneficial, but not necessary.

Still not sure? Our 6 week Intro to Ashtanga course is back in Term 4! Designed for beginners or those who want to refresh on the basics, this is a great place to start your yoga journey. Bookings required as numbers are limited.
