Yoga is not the practice of contortion of the body – it’s the combination of physical movement (asana), breath work (pranayama) and discipline of the mind (meditation).
Some people come to yoga for the physical health benefits, or to build strength and gain more flexibility in their body. Others join a yoga class for stress release, tension release or just to calm a busy mind. Your reasons for practicing yoga may change from week to week and will almost certainly change after many years of practice. Whatever your reason, it’s the right reason for you!
